Internal notice board.
Like so many organisations, NewPower staff are spread around the country (and overseas!) so the company needed a way to communicate with staff both in and out of the office. The Intranet acted as a staff notice board, providing in a single place all the updates and announcements that would once have been pinned up for all to see. The announcements covered many areas, the most popular being “social”, but also covering “technical”, “projects”, “Health & Safety” and so on. As the administrator added a new post, she would tag it with the relevant subject area(s) and the post would automatically be published to the correct page(s). The latest posts were also displayed on the home page – increasing the likelihood that everyone would see them.
A handy gadget was the alert facility. Staff could sign up to be notified by email when a new post was added. This meant they never missed an announcement and were able to stay up to date with posts, as soon as they were published.

Another popular display on the home page was an opportunity to say “thank you” to members of staff. This took the form of testimonial describing how the colleague had gone “above and beyond’ what was expected.
The testimonial was typed into a form and once the admin had approved the submission, it was published on the Intranet.
A useful extra was identifying which company values applied to this testimonial. Over time, management were able to build a picture of where the company was strongest, and if there were any areas that need additional focus.
